The script for the French Connection in the part where Irv is tearing apart the car to look for the coke hidden in the car may be an accurate script, but it is not what Gene Hackman actually said (maybe he ad-libbed). When irv says "I tore everything out of this car except the rocker panels" Popeye then says, in his typical excited voice something like "The rocker panels ? what's that ? cmon irv !" with the "cmon irv" being a sarcastic remark in tone meaning something like "why didn't you open the rocker panels, open em up now."
